Fiamma Kit Frame 28 Ducato is an interface frame that lets you install the Fiamma Vent 28 F rooflight, size 28 x 28 cm, on the roof of a Fiat Ducato van and its sister models, the Citroen Jumper (Relay in the UK) and the Peugeot Boxer. The roof of these vans is not flat: it has transverse ribs that stiffen the sheet metal. A rooflight frame, however, needs an even surface, otherwise it does not seal along its whole perimeter and water collects in the gaps. On its underside Kit Frame 28 Ducato follows the shape of the roof ribs, and on top it forms a flat, even surface for the rooflight. The frame measures 37.5 x 34 cm outside, has a 28 x 28 cm inner opening and weighs 0.3 kg. It is made of white ASA plastic, which copes well with sunlight, rain and changes in temperature. It is an optional accessory, sold separately and without a rooflight.

Why the Ducato roof needs a frame
A rooflight in a motorhome or caravan is usually fitted on a flat roof: the outer frame of the rooflight sits on the roof skin and the inner frame clamps it from inside. The steel roof of a Ducato van, however, has ribs running across the vehicle. If you place a rooflight directly on this sheet metal, its frame only touches the roof on the raised parts and gaps remain in between. Kit Frame 28 Ducato solves this: its underside has a profile that matches the ribs, and its top is flat, so the rooflight rests on it along its whole perimeter.
Which rooflights it fits
Kit Frame 28 Ducato is designed for the Fiamma Vent 28 F rooflight, size 28 x 28 cm, in the White (white cover) and Crystal (clear cover) versions. You can add the Kit Turbo-Vent 28F fan to the Vent 28 F later. The fan is installed in the rooflight itself, so the frame has no effect on it. For the larger 40 x 40 cm Fiamma rooflights, such as the Vent 40 and Turbo-Vent, the manufacturer offers a separate Kit Frame 40 Ducato measuring 49 x 49 cm. The older Vent 28 generation (without the letter F) is not listed by the manufacturer as compatible with this frame.
Which vehicles
The frame is designed for Fiat Ducato vans built from 2006 onwards (X250 and X290 generations) and for the Citroen Jumper/Relay and Peugeot Boxer built on the same platform. Before you buy, check the installation spot: the frame measures 37.5 x 34 cm, so you need enough free roof area around the rooflight, with no reinforcements, cables or other parts under the sheet metal.
Installation step by step
- place the frame on the chosen spot of the roof so that its profile matches the ribs, and mark the opening from inside
- cut a 28 x 28 cm opening in the roof, for example with a jigsaw and a metal blade
- remove metal swarf from the edges and protect the cut steel against corrosion
- clean and degrease the roof where the frame will sit
- apply sealant into the channels on the underside of the frame (the manufacturer names Sikalastomer-710, Terostat II or Dekalin 1512)
- place the frame on the roof over the opening, press it down and remove excess sealant
- install the Vent 28 F rooflight on the frame according to its own installation instructions
Sealing and sealants
The manufacturer's installation instructions show sealant applied into the channels on the underside of the frame. Three products are named: Sikalastomer-710, Terostat II and Dekalin 1512. The sealant must fill the channels all the way around the frame, without gaps. Before you apply it, the roof surface must be clean, dry and free of grease.
Roof thickness and choosing the rooflight
The Vent 28 F rooflight uses sandwich mounting: the outer frame sits on the roof and the inner frame is screwed to it from inside. For the Vent 28 F the manufacturer gives a standard roof thickness range of 2.8-5.0 cm, and 5.0-6.8 cm with the Kit Extension. In a van with an insulated ceiling and Kit Frame 28 Ducato, measure the total thickness at the installation spot before you order the rooflight.
Who should install it
Installation involves cutting a hole in the vehicle roof, so a mistake is hard to undo. The manufacturer recommends installation by qualified personnel in line with the regulations in force in your country. Before installation, also check that the frame has not been damaged or deformed in transit.
