Ghidini Sturmy Piezo Gas Lighter 22 cm - No Battery, No Flint, for Gas Hobs, Camping Stoves, Gas Grills and Motorhomes, Made in Italy
- Ghidini Sturmy piezo gas lighter, approx. 22 cm long, made in Italy. Pressing the button creates a spark with no battery, flint or charging. It is used to light the burners of gas hobs, camping stoves and gas grills.
Ghidini Sturmy is a piezoelectric gas lighter, approx. 22 cm long, made in Italy by Ghidini Cipriano. It has no battery, no flint and no gas tank, so there is nothing to replace, charge or refill. Pressing the button in the handle creates a spark at the metal tip. Simply open the burner tap, hold the tip to the escaping gas and press the button. The lighter is handy wherever a burner has no ignition of its own or the built-in ignition has stopped working: on a gas hob at home, in a motorhome or caravan, on a camping stove and on a gas grill.

Key features
- piezo ignition, a spark every time you press the button
- no battery, no flint, no charging and no gas
- length approx. 22 cm, width 3.3 cm, height 4 cm
- plastic body, metal tip
- large button along the handle
- for the burners of gas hobs, camping stoves and gas grills
- made in Italy
- manufacturer part number 2802
How a piezo lighter works
The handle contains a piezoelectric element. Pressing the button strikes a crystal, which produces a high voltage in a fraction of a second. The voltage travels to the tip and creates a spark there. So the lighter needs no battery, mains power or fuel. Every press gives a new spark, so if the gas does not light straight away, just press again. The lighter does not produce a flame of its own. The spark ignites the gas coming out of the burner, and the flame appears on the burner, not on the tip of the lighter.
What it is for and what it is not for
- burners of gas hobs at home, in the garden and in motorhomes
- burners of camping stoves running on cartridges or cylinders, without their own ignition
- burners of gas grills when the built-in ignition fails
- other appliances with an open gas burner where the instructions allow lighting from outside
- not suitable for candles, firelighters, charcoal, paper or campfires, because it gives no flame - for those you need a flame lighter or an arc lighter
Lighting a burner step by step
- hold the lighter ready and place the metal tip next to the burner
- open the burner tap or turn the hob knob as described in its instructions
- straight away hold the tip where the gas comes out
- press the button all the way until the spark jumps and the flame appears
- on a hob with a flame failure device, keep the knob pressed in for as long as its instructions say
- move the lighter away from the flame and put it down away from the burner
When the gas does not light
If no flame appears after a few presses, close the tap and air the area before you try again. Do not let gas flow for long without ignition. Check that the tip is dry and clean and that you are holding it close to the burner holes. Moisture weakens the spark, so keep the lighter away from steam. If the burner still does not light, the cause is usually the gas supply, for example an empty cylinder, a closed valve or a blocked jet.
In a motorhome, caravan and on the campsite
In motorhomes and caravans the gas hob often has piezo ignition built into the knob or a separate button. This ignition can weaken over time or stop working, for example when the electrode gets damp. The Sturmy lighter is then a simple backup: it takes little space in a drawer, does not go flat during winter storage, and you do not have to carry gas or batteries for it.
Safety
- keep the lighter out of the reach of children
- do not point the tip at people or animals and do not press the button near your face
- use it only on burners in a well-ventilated place
- do not leave the lighter on a hot hob or next to a flame
- if you smell gas, do not create a spark - close the valve and air the room

Build and care
The handle is made of plastic and the tip of metal. The button runs along the handle, so it is easy to press with your whole hand, even when wearing a glove. Made in Italy is moulded into the body. The lighter needs no maintenance. Wipe it with a dry or slightly damp cloth, do not rinse it under running water and do not put it in the dishwasher. Store it in a dry place, away from steam from pots and kettles. The colour of the body depends on the batch available and may differ from the photos.

Frequently asked questions
Does the lighter need a battery?
No. A piezoelectric element creates the spark when you press the button, with no battery, charging or flint.
Can I light a candle or a charcoal grill with it?
No. The lighter gives no flame of its own, only a spark that ignites escaping gas. For candles and charcoal you need a flame lighter or an arc lighter.
Why is there no spark?
Usually the tip is damp. Dry it and keep the lighter away from steam. Press the button all the way, as the spark is created at the end of the stroke.
Is it suitable for a motorhome hob?
Yes, for the burners of gas hobs in motorhomes and caravans. On a hob with a flame failure device, hold the knob in as its instructions say.
Which colour will I get?
The body colour depends on the batch available and may differ from the photos. Design and function are the same.
