HPV Mambo two-burner spirit stove, white, 2 x 1.0 kW - 0.8 l spirit tank, adjustable flame
- HPV Mambo is a two-burner spirit stove with 2 x 1.0 kW output and a built-in 0.8 l tank. The housing is made of painted sheet steel and you adjust the flame with a knob. One filling gives about 120 minutes of cooking.
HPV Mambo is a two-burner spirit stove for a motorhome, caravan, boat, holiday cabin or campsite. The 0.8 l spirit tank is permanently mounted at the back of the stove, so you need no gas cylinder, cartridge or hose. The housing is made of painted sheet steel in white, and a chrome pan support over each burner holds a pot, kettle or frying pan above the burner. Each of the two burners has its own valve knob at the front of the housing, so you control them independently. The output is 2 x 1.0 kW and one filling lasts for about 120 minutes. The stove measures 50 x 32 x 12 cm and weighs about 2.5 kg, so it is easy to carry and to store in a cupboard.

What it is good for
- Cooking in a motorhome, caravan or van without a gas system, or as a second stove.
- A galley on a boat or a kitchen in a holiday cabin where you do not want to keep a gas cylinder.
- Camping, allotment and garden: put the stove on a table and cook without connecting anything.
- A backup stove at home in case of a power or gas cut.
- Boiling water for coffee and tea, heating canned food, frying eggs and cooking a meal in two pots at once.
How the stove works
Spirit flows from the tank through a tube with a wick to the burner. Before the stove works normally, it has to be preheated: a little spirit runs from the nozzle into the bowl under the burner and you light it there. The heat from the bowl warms the tube, the spirit vaporises and the vapour burns in the burner with an even flame. Inside the burner two small preheating flames keep the vaporising going and must burn the whole time. With the valve knob you change the flow of spirit and so the size of the flame. Turning it clockwise closes the valve and puts the burner out.
First use step by step
- Place the stove on a level, non-flammable surface, at least 25 cm away from flammable objects.
- Close the valve by turning the knob clockwise.
- Unscrew the filler cap and pour in spirit through a funnel up to about 3/4 of the tank (Salsa about 0.4 l, Mambo about 0.8 l). Wipe off any spilled spirit straight away and screw the cap back on.
- Wait 2-3 minutes so that the wick in the tube soaks up the spirit.
- Open the valve by turning the knob anticlockwise. Spirit slowly drips from the nozzle into the preheating bowl. Fill the bowl no more than halfway, then close the valve.
- Light the spirit in the bowl.
- When the flame in the bowl starts to die down, slowly open the valve by about 3 turns. If the flame in the bowl has already gone out, light the burner with a match.
- If a tall flame shoots out of the nozzle, preheating was too short. Close the valve and preheat again.
Adjusting and shutting off
- Set the flame size with the valve knob, separately for each burner.
- When you turn the flame down, make sure the two small preheating flames inside the burner do not go out.
- To put the burner out, turn the knob clockwise as far as it goes.
- After use always keep the valve closed, otherwise spirit leaks out.
Safety
- The vent hole in the filler cap must always be open. A blocked vent causes pressure in the tank and can make it burst, causing fire and explosion.
- Never refill a burning or still hot stove and keep open flames away from the filler.
- Spilled spirit burns with an almost invisible flame. Check regularly for wet spots on the tank and the fuel lines. If you find any, do not use the stove and have it checked by a specialist.
- Never leave the stove unattended while it is burning.
- Cook in a well-ventilated place.
- Empty the tank completely before transport and storage so that no spirit leaks out.
Care and storage
- Use clean spirit only, for example methylated spirit.
- Wipe off food residue with a soft damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or sharp tools.
- Keep the nozzle hole and the preheating opening clear. If they get blocked, clean them with a needle or thin wire.
- Pour the spirit out of the tank before a longer break.
Salsa or Mambo
Both models have the same 1.0 kW burner, the same operation and a burn time of about 120 minutes. Salsa has one burner and a 0.4 l tank, measures 25 x 32 x 12 cm and weighs about 1.4 kg, so it is enough for coffee, tea and simple meals for one or two people. Mambo has two burners with separate knobs and a 0.8 l tank, measures 50 x 32 x 12 cm and weighs about 2.5 kg, so you can cook a meal in two pots at once.

Frequently asked questions
Which fuel do I use?
Clean spirit, for example methylated spirit. Pour it in through a funnel up to about 3/4 of the tank and only into a cold stove that is switched off.
How long does one filling last?
About 120 minutes of use. The tank holds about 0.8 l of spirit.
Do I need a gas cylinder or cartridge?
No. The stove has its own spirit tank, so you do not connect a cylinder, cartridge or hose.
Why does a tall flame shoot out of the nozzle when I light it?
The stove was not preheated enough. Close the valve and preheat again with spirit in the bowl under the burner.
Can I transport the stove with spirit in the tank?
No. Empty the tank completely before transport and storage so that no spirit leaks out.
