Lippert R-Skirun is a ski and snowboard carrier that you fit on the R-Bike Van rear bike rack. With it, the same rack that carries your bikes in summer takes your ski gear outside the vehicle in winter, so wet and icy skis stay out of your motorhome or van. The set consists of two holders: one goes on the upper R-Bar beam and the other on the lower one. Skis and boards stand upright with their tips pointing up, and the holders clamp them and lock with a key. It takes up to four pairs of skis or two pairs of skis and two snowboards, with a maximum load of 28 kg. The holders are made of anodised aluminium and injection-moulded plastic, and the whole set weighs 3.2 kg. You can still open the rear doors while the skis are loaded. To fit it you need an R-Bike Van rack for your vehicle and an R-Bar beam set, both sold separately.

The total weight of your gear must not exceed 28 kg, the maximum load of the carrier. The limits of the R-Bike Van rack given in its manual and the permitted load of the rear doors and the whole vehicle also apply. Load skis and boards with the tips pointing up. If you carry more than one pair of skis or more than one snowboard, the manufacturer recommends loading them with two people. The carrier protects your gear from scratches and the weather while you drive.

Which vehicles it fits

R-Skirun fits every version of the R-Bike Van rack. The manufacturer offers R-Bike Van for the Fiat Ducato from 2006 (X250 and X290), Ford Transit from 2014, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter from 2020, Volkswagen Crafter from 2017 and Renault Master from 2014. If you already have an R-Bike Van rack, you only need to add the R-Bar beams and this set.

Installation step by step

• check that the box contains both holders, 4 M6 bolts, 4 washers of 6 mm, 4 M6 nuts, 2 keys and an Allen key
• remove the end caps from the R-Bar beams and slide the bolts into the beam channels
• unlock the holder with the key, press the release button and open the clamps
• position both holders symmetrically, in the middle of the beams and exactly one above the other
• tighten the holders with the Allen key to 5 Nm, then refit the beam end caps
• pull and push the holders firmly in all directions: if they move, tighten them more securely
• repeat this check once the skis are loaded

If you have any doubt about the installation, do not use the carrier and ask your dealer. Do not modify the holders or the fixings.

Loading and locking

To load your gear, unlock both holders with the key, press the release button and open the upper clamps. Place the skis or boards upright, tips up, so that they rest in both holders. Close the clamps, press them down and lock them with the key. Check that the skis cannot slide out of the holders and that no part of the load touches the vehicle door. To unload, simply unlock and press the release button. The holders are designed so that you can open the rear doors even with the skis loaded. Do it carefully, because the rack and load stick out beyond the door outline.

Speed and safety on the road

• if skis or boards stick out above the vehicle roof, do not exceed 110 km/h
• if the load stays below the roof line, the manufacturer allows a maximum of 130 km/h
• always adapt your speed to the road, weather, traffic and load
• the load must not stick out below the floor of the vehicle load area
• skis must not cover the lights, indicators, third brake light or number plate
• mark any load that sticks out beyond the vehicle outline as required in the country you drive in
• drive over speed bumps at no more than 15 km/h
• check regularly during the trip that bolts and locks are tight
• remove the holders before an automatic car wash if necessary

Care

Wash the holders with warm water and pH-neutral soap and wipe them dry with a cloth. Do not use solvents or other aggressive chemicals. Lubricate the bolts and locks regularly, especially after winter when road salt gets onto the carrier. Replace worn bolts and fixings. If a holder falls, check it for cracks and dents and replace any damaged part before using it again.
