MPK Skylight Model 42 Rooflight for 40 x 40 cm Cutout, Frosted Dome, Beige Frame, without Fly Screen - for Caravan and Motorhome, Roof 24-56 mm
- MPK Skylight Model 42 rooflight for a 400 x 400 mm cutout, with a frosted polypropylene dome and a beige frame. It tilts in 4 directions, has 150 cm2 permanent ventilation and fits roofs of 24-56 mm. This version has no fly screen.
MPK Skylight Model 42 is a compact rooflight for caravans and motorhomes that fits a 400 x 400 mm roof cutout. The frosted polypropylene dome lets in soft, diffused daylight while stopping anyone from looking in from outside. The rooflight opens on telescopic stays: you can raise the whole dome or tilt it open on one side, in any of four directions. A permanent ventilation gap of 150 cm2 between the dome and the frame keeps air moving even when the rooflight is closed. The rooflight fits roofs from 24 to 56 mm thick, stands 91 mm above the roof and carries ECE R43 approval. This version is supplied without a fly screen. If you want to keep insects out or darken the interior during the day, you can add a matching MPK fly screen and blind for Model 42.

Key features
- roof cutout 400 x 400 mm, corner radius 23 mm
- roof thickness from 24 to 56 mm
- frosted white polypropylene dome, approx. 470 x 470 mm
- telescopic stays with lock, tilts in 4 directions or raises fully
- 150 cm2 permanent ventilation
- ECE R43 approval
- version without fly screen and without blind
What the Model 42 rooflight is for
In a caravan or motorhome the air quickly gets stuffy: cooking, showering, wet clothes and the breath of several people raise humidity, and the moisture condenses on cold walls and windows. A rooflight lets warm, humid air escape where it collects first, right under the ceiling. Model 42 is small, so it fits above the kitchen, in the washroom or in a short corridor. During the day the frosted dome brightens the interior without harsh sunlight and without a view inside.
Opening in four directions
The dome sits on telescopic stays with a lock. To open the rooflight, press both locking buttons and push the handles upwards. You can raise the whole dome or open it on one side only. The dome tilts in any of four directions, so in wind or light drizzle you can set it with the open side facing away from the wind. To close it, press the locking buttons again and pull the handles down until the rooflight locks.
Will it fit your vehicle
- measure the roof cutout: Model 42 needs a 400 x 400 mm cutout with corners rounded to a 23 mm radius
- measure the roof thickness: this version fits roofs from 24 to 56 mm
- check that the roof is flat inside and outside at the mounting position
- make sure the dome, approx. 470 x 470 mm and 91 mm above the roof, does not clash with roof rails, an antenna, a solar panel or an air conditioner
- on motorhomes based on the Fiat Ducato and its sister models with ribbed roofs, use the MPK 40 x 40 cm adapter frame

Telescopic stays
- the dome rises on stays at both sides
- it tilts open in any of four directions
- locking buttons and handles are on the inside
Installation step by step
- remove old adhesive and sealant residue as well as dirt, grease, oil and release agents around the cutout
- apply a permanently elastic caravan sealant to the sealing channel of the upper frame, following the sealant manufacturer's instructions
- insert the rooflight into the cutout from above with the stays in the direction of travel, so the handles are at the front and rear
- from below, fit the inner frame into the upper frame and screw the two frames together
- use 8 pan head screws 3.5 mm (DIN ISO 7049) with a length that matches the roof thickness
- screw length: roof 24-34 mm - 25 mm, 31-41 mm - 32 mm, 37-47 mm - 38 mm, 44-54 mm - 45 mm, 51-56 mm - 50 mm
- tighten the screws to no more than 0.5 Nm so as not to damage the plastic
Sealant and screws are not included. The manufacturer recommends having the rooflight fitted by an authorised workshop, because careful sealing decides whether the roof stays watertight for years.
Safe use
- never step on the dome
- do not cover or tape over the permanent ventilation gap
- do not drive with the rooflight open, check that it is closed and locked before you set off
- the manufacturer recommends a speed of no more than 130 km/h
- do not open the rooflight in strong wind or heavy rain
- close the rooflight when it starts to rain or snow
Cleaning and care
Clean the dome with clear water and a soft sponge only. Harsh cleaners can attack the polypropylene and make it brittle. For thorough cleaning you can take the dome off by removing the four screws at the stays. Do not undo the screws that hold the handles to the dome. To rinse dirt out of the gaps between the dome layers, dip it into a container of water, let the dirt soak for a moment and then pull the dome through the water by both handles. When refitting, tighten the original screws gently.
