NE287 21A SWITCHING BATTERY CHARGER
NE287 SWITCHING BATTERY CHARGERS
The NE287 is a battery charger for lead, gel, AGM and lithium batteries. The batteries must have a nominal voltage of 12V and capacity suitable for the battery cherger current (check compatibility of the maximum charging current with the technical data sheet for the battery to be connected). The NE287 also work as a power supply unit.
Operation
Power supply mode:
NE287 operates as a power supply unit when there is a 230V mains supply and there is no service battery installed or connected. In this mode output voltage is fixed at 13,8V with maximum current of 17A (230W max) or 21A (290W max). In this mode, the green LED flashes.
Battery charger mode:
If there is a service battery and it is powered by the main supply, NE287 operates as a battery charger. Use the dip switches to choose the charging algrithm according to the type of the battery. At switch on, the green LED flashes to indicate which algorithm is selected via dip switches. The battery charger uses a combination of Constant Current and Constant Voltage. This makes it possible to significantly reduce charging time and prevents permanent damage to the batteries, even if the charger is permanently connected to the mains 230V.
When battery charging is activated the power supply immediately provides the necessary current, so that the battery does not discharge (this is true if the current absorbed by the load is lower than the maximum current available from the battery charger, otherwise the battery will discharge in any case with current equal to the difference
(ILOAD - IBATTERY CHARGER).
It is possible to connect a temperature probe to battery charger (to be placed on the battery), to adapt the charging algorithm selected at the temperature of the battery
