Opti two-way zip 210 cm grey - separating, with double slider for awnings and tents
- Grey Opti zip, 210 cm long, for caravan awnings and tents. It separates fully and has two sliders, so you can open the entrance from the top, from the bottom or completely. Ideal for replacing a worn zip.
The Opti zip is 210 cm long and is sewn into the door or window of an awning, a tent or an awning tent. It is a two-way separating zip. With two sliders you can open the entrance from the top, from the bottom or anywhere in between, and when both sliders are moved to the end, the two halves come apart completely. This lets you open just the upper part to air the inside, or just the lower part to pass a cable or hose through. The grey tape suits most awnings in neutral colours. The zip is most useful when the old zip in a panel no longer closes, has missing teeth or a damaged tape.

Key features
- length 210 cm, width of tape and teeth 3 cm
- two-way: two sliders, opens from the top and from the bottom
- separating: the two halves come apart completely
- coil zip with metal sliders
- colour: grey
- net weight 80 g
- to be sewn into an awning, tent or awning side panel
How a two-way zip works
- Both sliders at the bottom: the zip is closed along its full length.
- Move the upper slider down: you open the upper part of the entrance, for example for ventilation.
- Move the lower slider up: you open the lower part, for example to pass a power cable through.
- Both sliders at the end position: the halves separate and the entrance is fully open.
- The slider can be operated from inside and outside.
Where it is useful
The zip is designed for outer tents and awnings where a door, window or side panel closes with a zip. It works in caravan awnings, drive-away awnings for vans and motorhomes and in tents attached to a wind-out awning. Replacing just the zip usually costs less than a new panel or a new awning. To choose the length, measure the old zip from one end of the tape to the other.
Replacing the zip
- Measure the old zip and check whether it was separating and two-way.
- Unpick the old zip and remove any thread remains from the fabric edges.
- Open the new zip, pin both halves to the fabric edges and check that the lower ends are at the same height.
- Sew the tape on with strong polyester thread, ideally with a double seam.
- Close the zip and run both sliders along the full length before you pack the awning.
- If you do not have a sewing machine for heavy fabrics, take the awning to a tailor or sailmaker.
Choosing the length
The Opti two-way zip range comes in lengths of 165, 195, 210, 240 and 280 cm. If your old zip was about 210 cm long, choose this version. For a higher entrance, go for 240 or 280 cm, and for a lower window 165 or 195 cm. If you only need one opening direction, a grey 210 cm one-way tent zip is also available. You will find links to all versions below.
Use and care
- Before closing, check that there is no sand or pine needles in the teeth.
- When the panel is under tension, move the slider slowly and hold the fabric with your other hand so the teeth are not strained.
- Wipe the zip with a damp cloth from time to time and treat the sliders with a zip care product.
- Only pack the awning when the zip and the fabric are dry.

Questions and answers
Can the zip be separated completely?
Yes. It is a separating zip, so when both sliders are at the end position the halves come apart along the full length.
How is it different from a standard tent zip?
It has two sliders, so you can open the entrance from the top and from the bottom. A one-way zip only opens from one end.
Can I sew it in myself?
Yes, if you have a machine that can sew heavy tent fabric. Otherwise it is best to take the awning to a tailor or sailmaker.
How do I know which length I need?
Measure the old zip from one end of the tape to the other. This zip is 210 cm long, and the same range also includes 165, 195, 240 and 280 cm versions.
Will the zip suit an awning in a different colour?
The grey tape is neutral and suits most awnings. For light fabrics, white tent zips are also available.
