Sikaflex-554 white 600 ml unipack - elastic STP assembly adhesive for solar panels and motorhome parts
- Sikaflex-554 is an elastic 1-component STP assembly adhesive for large components. It bonds well to metals, aluminium, paint coatings, ceramics and some plastics. White, 600 ml unipack.
Sikaflex-554 is an elastic 1-component Silane Terminated Polymer (STP) adhesive designed for bonding large components in industrial assembly. It cures with atmospheric moisture, bonds well to a wide range of substrates with minimal pre-treatment and is suitable for joints subjected to dynamic stresses. On motorhomes it is used for example to fix solar panel brackets and other roof parts.

Key features
- good adhesion to many substrates without primer
- very good weathering resistance
- free of solvents, isocyanates, phthalates and PVC
- withstands dynamic stresses
- curing can be accelerated with Sika Booster and Sika PowerCure
- passes DIN EN 45545-2 R1/R7 HL3, ISEGA certificate

Application
Sika recommends applying the adhesive as a triangular bead to get a uniform bondline thickness when the part is pressed on. Work at 5-40 °C, ideally 15-25 °C. Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of grease. Choose the pre-treatment from the Sika Pre-treatment Chart and test adhesion on the original substrate.

Curing
The adhesive cures by reaction with atmospheric moisture. At low temperatures the air usually holds less water, so curing is slower. The chart shows the cured thickness over the days at 10, 23 and 35 °C.
Substrates
- metals, particularly aluminium
- metal primers and paint coatings
- sheet steel
- ceramic materials and certain plastics
- for plastics prone to stress cracking, ask the manufacturer and run a test
Safety
According to the safety data sheet the product is not classified as hazardous. It contains trimethoxyvinylsilane and pentamethylpiperidinol-substituted polyester and may produce an allergic reaction (EUH208). Spraying may form hazardous respirable droplets, do not breathe spray or mist (EUH211). Remove uncured adhesive from skin with Sika hand wipes or hand cleaner and water, never with solvents.

Questions and answers
Does Sikaflex-554 need a primer?
It bonds to many substrates without primer. Choose the pre-treatment from the Sika chart and test on the original material.
How fast does it cure?
Skin time is about 25 minutes, open time 20 minutes (23 °C, 50% r.h.). Full cure depends on temperature and bead thickness.
Is it suitable for solar panels on a motorhome roof?
It is designed for bonding large components and joints under dynamic stress, so it is used for panel brackets among others. Always test adhesion on the specific roof.
What do I need to apply a 600 ml unipack?
A sausage applicator gun for 600 ml unipacks.
