How the Level Indicator for Composting Toilets Works

Using a floating mechanism, the Trelino® Urinometer measures the fill level of your canister. As the liquid rises, the float moves upwards, pushing an orange plastic signal pin through the urine funnel of the separating insert. Once the canister reaches a critical level, the orange signal pin becomes clearly visible.

The Urinometer level indicator requires no batteries, making it highly reliable and ensuring maximum independence. A quick lift of the toilet lid is enough to check if it’s time to empty the canister – no need for a torch or an external display outside the van, as required by alternative products.
Bonus feature: The level indicator is inserted through the membrane of the urine canister lid. This not only ensures a secure fit but also prevents the membrane from shifting – a simple yet effective solution!

Overflow control made easy: when the canister is 85–90 % full, the level indicator clearly shows that it is time to empty it. At lower fill levels, the indicator remains down and you can continue to use your Trelino with complete peace of mind.

Versions & Compatibility*

The level indicator for composting toilets is available in two sizes:

XS | S:

• For urine canisters with a volume of less than 5 liters (all Trelino® XS and Trelino® S - but doesn't fit in Origin S)
• Assembled Urinometer: (W/D/H) 5.4/ 5.4/ 12.0 cm
• Pin only: (H) 10.0 cm

M | L:

• For urine canisters with a volume of 5 liters or more (all Trelino® M and Trelino® L)
• Assembled Urinometer: (W/D/H) 5.4/ 5.4/ 14.5 cm
• Signal Pin only: (H) 12.5 cm

**Positioning note: For Timber and Origin models, make sure to place the canister centrally under the urine funnel. This will prevent the indicator's signal pin from becoming stuck. If it does get stuck, gently tap the walls of the toilet from the outside. This will cause the urine in the canister to move and the signal pin will move freely again.

1. Unscrew the lid of the urine canister.
2. Remove the membrane from the lid.
3. Carefully insert the Trelino® Urinometer level indicator through the membrane.
4. Check that the indicator is correctly positioned. The two small indentations on the round base of the Urinometer should align with the two markings on the membrane. If they match, everything is in place!
5. Screw the lid with the membrane and Urinometer back onto the canister, place the separating insert into the toilet – and you're all set! :)
