Elgena replacement tank for the KB 3 heater with one element - original tank with element seal
- Original Elgena replacement tank for the KB 3 heater with one heating element, supplied with the element seal. For replacement after frost or pressure damage. Does not fit the KB 3 Kombi.
The Elgena replacement tank is the original plastic tank for the low-pressure KB 3 water heater with one heating element. You replace it when the old tank has cracked or deformed, most often after water froze inside or after the heater was connected to too much pressure. The element seal is included, so the heating element goes back in on a new seal. The tank fits the KB 3 in the 230 V / 660 W and 12 V / 200 W versions. The KB 3 Kombi with two elements uses a different tank.

When you need a new tank
The KB 3 tank is made of plastic and works without pressure. The two typical causes of damage are frost and excessive water pressure. If the heater was left over winter with water inside and no power, ice can burst the tank. The same happens when the heater is connected to a pressure pump or the mains without a low-pressure tap. Signs are a leak from the housing, a crack or a bulge in the tank. Do not glue or seal such a tank, replace it.
How the replacement works
- disconnect the power and switch off the water pump first
- drain the heater through the drain screw
- fit the heating element into the new tank with the new seal from the set
- after assembly fill the heater with water first, only then switch on the power
- check the connections for leaks with the pump running
How to avoid new damage
In winter you have two options. You can leave the heater powered with the knob on F, so the thermostat keeps the water above freezing. Or you disconnect the power, switch off the pump, drain the heater completely through the drain screw and open the tap so air gets into the lines. Even a little water left inside can burst the tank in frost. Connect the KB 3 only to a submersible, foot or hand pump or through a low-pressure tap with an open outlet. The manufacturer states a maximum of 0.8 bar.
Dry running
If you switch on the power after replacing the tank before filling it with water, the temperature fuse in the element trips. It then has to be replaced with an original Elgena fuse.
