SOG Type H toilet ventilation for Thetford C220 cassette toilets - 12 V door version with white carbon filter housing
- SOG Type H ventilation for Thetford C220 cassette toilets, door version. A 12 V fan draws odours out of the cassette and releases the air outside through an activated carbon filter in a white housing.
Odours escaping from the cassette into the washroom every time you open the blade are one of the most common problems in a motorhome or caravan. SOG Type H ventilation solves it mechanically. A small 12 V fan creates negative pressure in the cassette and draws the air out of the tank to the outside of the vehicle, so odours do not get inside. This is the door version for Thetford C220 series cassette toilets: you mount the fan on the inside of the service door and the housing with the activated carbon filter on the outside. This listing is for the white filter housing. It is the easiest SOG variant to install.

Key features
- SOG 1 Type H ventilation, door version
- for Thetford C220 series cassette toilets
- 12 V fan with 0.84 W power consumption
- switches on by itself when you open the blade, via a micro switch
- air from the cassette leaves the vehicle through an activated carbon filter
- white filter housing that you can paint in the vehicle colour
- kit includes hose, cassette connector, cable set with switch and small mounting parts
How SOG ventilation works
The fan runs only while the cassette blade is open. A micro switch mounted on the cassette guide switches it on when you open the blade and off when you close it. During that time the fan creates a slight negative pressure in the tank, so air from the washroom flows down through the bowl into the cassette and from there through the hose and the filter to the outside of the vehicle. When the blade is closed, the cassette stays aerated through the open hose. With SOG ventilation you do not need to add chemicals to the cassette. The manufacturer recommends normal toilet paper, not recycled paper.
Which toilets it fits
Type H is the SOG variant for all Thetford C220 series cassette toilets, i.e. toilets with a rotating bowl and a cassette on wheels. These include for example the C223-S, C223-CS, C223-CW and C224-CW. For other Thetford series such as C2, C3, C4, C200, C250, C260, C400 and C500, SOG offers separate variants because their cassettes are built differently. You can find your toilet model on the rating plate under the cassette.
The door version in practice
In this version the fan and the filter are fixed to the toilet service door, not to the wall, roof or floor of the vehicle. You only need one hole in the door, so installation is simpler than with the roof and floor versions. The filter housing sits on the outside and is white. If you like, you can paint it in the body colour. The same kit is also available with a light grey, dark grey and black housing, see the links below.
What is in the kit
- 12 V fan
- parts for connecting the cassette, including the ventilation connector that replaces the excess pressure valve
- exhaust hose with connector
- sealing plug for the connector when you empty the cassette
- cable set with micro switch and aluminium holder
- white filter housing with activated carbon filter
- small mounting parts and detailed instructions
- the cassette is not included
Installation in brief
- Mark the position on the service door and drill a 36-37 mm hole.
- Screw the fan on from the inside with four 3.5 x 16 screws and seal it with silicone. The hose connector must point towards the door hinge.
- On the outside, screw on the filter housing at least 5 mm from the door frame. In GRP, pre-drill 2.5-3 mm holes.
- Fix the micro switch holder to the cassette guide and connect the cables to the 12 V supply: red to plus, black to minus.
- Drill a 35 mm hole in the cassette screw cap and fit the rubber lead-through and the connecting sleeve.
- Remove the excess pressure valve from the cassette and fit the SOG ventilation connector in its place with a 19 mm spanner.
- Route the hose so that it does not form a siphon, and do not fix it with cable ties, as this can damage the fan.
- Finally, the mandatory check: with the blade open, hold a smouldering incense stick above it. If the smoke is drawn down into the cassette, the ventilation works. If the fan does not start, check the 12 V supply and the polarity, as it has reverse polarity protection.
Use and care
- Before removing the cassette, pull the hose off the connector on the cap and fit the black plug. After inserting the cassette, remove the plug and push the hose back on.
- Empty the cassette at the latest every 5 days.
- You can carry a full spare cassette for several days without ventilation.
- Do not use vinegar for cleaning, as it destroys the blade seal.
- Replace the activated carbon filter once a year. On the door version you undo two crosshead screws, remove the cover and insert the new filter.
