The Dometic LS 100 is an upper ventilation grille fitted in the outer wall of a motorhome or caravan, level with the back of an absorption fridge. Warm air from the condenser and exhaust gas from the gas burner leave through it. This version is black and suits dark side walls, wrapped vehicles and vans where other exterior parts are black too.

What the LS 100 grille does
An absorption fridge releases heat through the condenser at the back of the unit. To cool efficiently, the air behind it has to be exchanged constantly. For single-door fridges Dometic specifies two grilles: LS 100 at the top and LS 200 at the bottom. The lower grille lets cool outside air in and the upper one lets warm air out as it naturally rises.
When heat builds up behind the fridge, it runs longer and uses more energy, whether on gas, 230 V or 12 V. A correctly chosen and unobstructed upper grille is one of the conditions for proper fridge operation on hot days.
The grilles also give access to the back of the fridge from outside. With the grille removed you can inspect and clean the burner and condenser area without taking the fridge out of the furniture.
How the set is built
The mounting frame sits in the wall cut-out and stays in place permanently. The grille with fly screen clips onto it and keeps insects, leaves and dirt out of the fridge recess.
The exhaust insert guides burner gases outside in the upper part of the grille. The winter cover goes over the grille in the cold months, when the fridge needs less ventilation, and limits cold air and snow getting into the recess.
Installation step by step
- Check the fridge manual for the position of the upper grille and the required distance from the condenser.
- Mark a 451 x 156 mm cut-out on the wall and make sure no cables or structural parts run there.
- Cut the opening and seal the edges of the wall material.
- Bed the mounting frame in the opening on a vehicle sealant and screw it in place.
- Fit the grille with fly screen and the exhaust insert.
- Put the winter cover on in winter and take it off before summer.

Choosing grilles for your fridge
Dometic gives a simple rule: single-door fridges need the LS 100 at the top and the LS 200 at the bottom. For double-door fridges and RML models the LS 300 is intended, usable both at the top and at the bottom. Always confirm the grille type and position in your fridge's installation manual.
Things to keep in mind
- Never cover or tape over the grille while the fridge is running, especially on gas.
- Fit the winter cover only in cold weather, as described in the fridge manual.
- Wall installation should be done by someone experienced in vehicle conversions, and the fridge gas system checked by an authorised service.
Care
Wash the grille now and then with water and a mild cleaner and check that the fly screen is not clogged with dust, insects or leaves. After winter, inspect the frame sealant so that water does not get into the vehicle wall.
