FAP HSC key blank for cutting a spare key - motorhome and caravan locks

This is an uncut key, a key blank, for FAP locks with an HSC barrel. HSC is a series of higher security barrels that FAP fits in entrance door and service hatch locks of motorhomes and caravans. The blank alone will not open the lock. You take it to a locksmith together with a working key, and the locksmith cuts the same pattern into it. This way you get a spare key without replacing the barrel. The key has a black oval plastic head with a hole for a key ring and a metal blade. The pack contains one piece.

How to get the key cut

• Check that your lock has a FAP HSC barrel. The easiest way is to compare the head and blade of your key with the photo.
• Take the blank and a working key to a key cutting shop.
• The locksmith copies the cuts of your key onto the blank.
• Try the new key in every lock the original opens before you leave the shop.
• If the key turns stiffly, ask for the burrs to be removed from the cuts.

When it comes in handy

It is worth having a spare key before you lose the only one you have. If several locks in your motorhome use barrels for the same key, one copied key opens them all. You can give the second key to a fellow traveller or keep it at home. The blank is also useful when your current key is worn, cracked or has a damaged head while the lock still works.

If you no longer have any key

The blank is used to copy an existing key. If you have lost all your keys, there is nothing to copy. In that case it is easier to replace the HSC barrel and get new keys with it. You will find the barrel and a ready-cut key pair in the links below.

How to identify your lock system

FAP uses several barrel systems in its locks: standard, New System, HSC and Zadi barrels. Each has a different key profile, so the HSC blank does not fit the others. Compare your key with the photo. An HSC key has a black oval head. If your key looks different, choose the blank for the matching system. If in doubt, send us a photo of your key and we will help you choose the right part.

Tips

• Mark the new key with a coloured ring or tag so you can tell it apart from others.
• Do not keep the spare key inside the motorhome, it will not help if the door locks behind you.
• Lubricate locks and barrels with lock grease once a season, so the key turns smoothly and wears more slowly.
