FAP straight sink drain Ø 32 mm with plug on chain and Ø 25 mm hose connector - motorhome and caravan

This is a straight drain by the Italian company FAP for a sink or washbasin with a 32 mm drain hole. You fit it from above into the hole, the flange rests on the bottom of the sink, and water runs straight down through the Ø 25 mm hose connector. From there the hose takes it to the grey water tank. A white plug on a metal ball chain is included, so you can close the sink and fill it with water for washing up. The body is white plastic and the outer diameter of the drain is 50 mm. It is a simple part that comes in handy when you replace a cracked or yellowed drain in a motorhome kitchen or caravan bathroom, or when you build your own interior.

How to fit the drain

• Measure the hole in your sink. This drain is for a 32 mm hole.
• Clean and degrease the edge of the hole, especially if you replace an old drain and sealant residue is left.
• Insert the drain from above so that the flange sits flat on the bottom of the sink.
• Push a Ø 25 mm hose onto the connector and secure it with a hose clamp.
• Route the hose with a fall to the grey water tank, without loops or low points where water can stand.
• Fill the sink, pull the plug and check underneath that nothing drips.

Which sinks it fits

The drain is made for sinks and washbasins with a 32 mm drain hole. Such holes are common in kitchens and bathrooms of motorhomes, caravans and boats. Before ordering, measure the diameter of the hole in the sink, not the old flange, because the flange is always larger than the hole. Also check which hose you have under the sink. Plug on a chain

The plug closes the drain when you want to fill the sink with water for washing up or the basin for washing your hands. This way you use less water from the tank. You can fix the metal ball chain with the ring at its end next to the sink, so the plug does not get lost while driving. A closed plug also limits smells from the system when you are not using the tap.

Straight drain and smells

A straight drain has no trap of its own. Water runs directly into the hose and on to the grey water tank. If smells from the system bother you, fit an odour trap for a 25 mm hose or keep the drain closed with the plug when parked. Emptying the grey water tank regularly and rinsing it with clean water also helps.

Replacing an old drain

Old plastic drains turn yellow over time, crack at the flange or start to leak. Before removing the old one, empty the grey water tank and put a bowl under the sink. Take the clamp and hose off the connector, remove the old drain and clean off the old sealant. Compare the hole and connector diameters with the data of this drain.

Tips

• Always fit a hose clamp on the connector. On bumpy roads a hose without a clamp can slip off.
• Do not pour fat or coffee grounds into the sink, they settle in the hose and tank.
• Drain the grey water system before winter so that water does not freeze in the hose.
