HPV Camping Gas Heater 1.7 kW, 50 mbar, with Flame Failure Device - Propane/Butane, 1.5 m Hose, for Outdoor Use
- HPV 1.7 kW propane/butane gas heater for a 50 mbar regulator. Consumption 130 g/h, flame failure device with thermocouple and 1.5 m hose included. For outdoor use and well-ventilated spaces.
The HPV heater is a small propane/butane gas heater that gives you warmth where there is no mains power: at the table on a campsite, on a terrace, under an open canopy or in a well-ventilated workshop. It has an output of 1.7 kW and uses about 130 g of gas per hour, so an 11 kg cylinder lasts more than 80 hours. The tube burner sits behind a metal guard grille, and a flame failure device with a thermocouple shuts off the gas if the flame goes out. A 1.5 m connection hose is included. The heater is factory-set to 50 mbar and you connect it to the cylinder through a 50 mbar regulator. It weighs about 0.9 kg and measures 34 x 8.5 x 18.5 cm, so it is easy to take along with the rest of your camping gear.

Key features
- 1.7 kW output with a gas consumption of about 130 g/h
- runs on propane, butane or a mixture from a cylinder through a 50 mbar regulator
- flame failure device with thermocouple: the gas is shut off if the flame goes out
- tube burner behind a metal guard grille
- 1.5 m connection hose included
- weight about 0.9 kg, dimensions 34 x 8.5 x 18.5 cm
The heater has no output control. It runs at full output from ignition until you close the cylinder valve.
Where you can use it
The manufacturer allows the heater to be used only in the open air or in well-ventilated rooms. The room must have a volume of at least 20 m³ for each 1 kW of output, which means at least 34 m³ for 1.7 kW. Typical places are a camping table in the open, a terrace, an open shelter, a garden gazebo or an airy workshop. Place the heater on a stable, level, non-combustible surface and never leave it unattended while it is running.
Where you must not use it
- in motorhomes, caravans and other recreational vehicles
- on boats
- in closed rooms, basements and other places below ground level
- in living rooms, offices, bedrooms and bathrooms
- in nurseries and similar places where people stay, in high-rise flats and in passageways
- in places where explosive or highly flammable substances are present or may form
What you need to connect it
- a propane, butane or propane/butane cylinder
- a regulator with a fixed outlet pressure of 50 mbar and a capacity of up to 1.5 kg/h that suits your cylinder valve
- the 1.5 m connection hose included in the set
- 14 mm and 17 mm open-ended spanners
- leak detection spray or water with washing-up liquid
Connecting step by step
- Connect and change the cylinder away from flames and other sources of ignition.
- Check the seal in the cylinder valve. Do not add extra seals.
- Screw the regulator nut onto the cylinder valve by hand. Do not use tools, as they can damage the seal.
- Screw the hose onto the regulator outlet with a 17 mm spanner while holding the regulator with a second spanner so that it does not turn.
- Screw the other end of the hose onto the gas connection at the heater valve with a 17 mm spanner. The connection has a 1/4 inch left-hand thread.
- Open the cylinder valve and check all joints with spray or foam. Never use a flame to look for leaks.
Lighting and switching off
- Open the cylinder valve.
- Press the button of the flame failure device at the heater valve.
- Light the gas at the tube burner straight away with a long match, for example a fireplace match.
- After lighting, keep the button pressed for about 5 more seconds until the thermocouple has warmed up. If the flame goes out, repeat the lighting.
- You switch the heater off only with the cylinder valve. Close it after use and whenever something is not working properly.
Safety during use
- keep at least 0.5 m away from combustible materials such as fabric, paper or wood
- route the hose so that it is not kinked or twisted and does not touch hot parts
- use the heater only for heating, not for drying things or cooking
- do not modify the appliance, and have repairs to the gas parts done by an authorised service
Hose, storage and care
- replace the hose straight away if it is cracked, stiff or damaged, and after 6 years at the latest
- before storing for a longer time, unscrew the regulator from the cylinder and check the valve seal
- do not store the cylinder in the house, in a basement or anywhere without ventilation
- store the heater dry and clean, and dust off the grille and burner before the season

Frequently asked questions
Can I use the heater in a motorhome, caravan or sleeping tent?
No. The manufacturer prohibits use in recreational vehicles, on boats, in bedrooms and in other closed rooms. To heat the inside of a motorhome, use the built-in heating or an electric heater.
Which regulator do I need?
A regulator with a fixed outlet pressure of 50 mbar and a capacity of up to 1.5 kg/h that suits your cylinder valve. This heater is factory-set to 50 mbar, as shown on its rating plate.
How long does a cylinder last?
At 130 g/h a 5 kg cylinder lasts about 38 hours and an 11 kg cylinder about 84 hours of operation.
Can I adjust the temperature?
No. The heater has no output control and runs at its full 1.7 kW as long as the cylinder valve is open.
What happens if the flame goes out?
The thermocouple cools down and the flame failure device closes the gas supply. To restart the heater, light it again as described in the instructions.
