Pharmavoyage Anti-Mosquito Candle with Geraniol and Soy Wax, 2 Wicks, up to 20 h - Katadyn
- Pharmavoyage anti-mosquito candle with soy wax and geraniol, with two wicks, in a metal tin with a screw lid. It protects within a radius of about 1 metre and burns for up to 20 hours, at the campsite, on the terrace or at home.
The Pharmavoyage anti-mosquito candle from Katadyn consists of 95% soy wax and 5% geraniol, an active substance that repels mosquitoes. Put it on the camping table, by the tent, on the terrace or at home: it protects within a radius of about 1 metre and burns for up to 20 hours. It has two wicks and a metal tin with a screw-on lid, so it is easy to put out, close and pack in a rucksack for the next trip.

Key features
- active substance: geraniol (5%), soy wax (95%)
- mosquito protection within a radius of about 1 metre
- burn time up to 20 hours
- two wicks, lit alternately
- metal tin with screw-on lid
- for indoor and outdoor use
How it works
Geraniol is an active substance obtained from plants of the Cymbopogon genus. As the candle burns, it is released into the air around it and discourages mosquitoes from coming close. According to the manufacturer, the candle reaches its full repellent effect after about 15 minutes of burning.
The effectiveness of the candle was tested in laboratory in vivo studies published by the American Mosquito Control Association. The manufacturer states that a geraniol candle is twice as effective as a lemongrass candle.
Soy wax produces little soot and, according to the manufacturer, burns twice as long as paraffin, so one candle lasts about 20 hours.
How to use
- place the candle in the middle of the area you want to protect, for example on a table
- light the candle about 15 minutes before you plan to sit there
- light the wicks alternately so the wax burns down evenly
- once it is out and has cooled, screw the lid onto the tin
- never leave a burning candle unattended and keep it away from children, pets and flammable objects
- keep at least 10 cm between burning candles
In regions where mosquitoes transmit malaria, dengue or chikungunya, also use repellents designed to protect against these diseases.
Safety
The product contains geraniol and may cause an allergic skin reaction (H317). Do not use it if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. After skin contact, wash with plenty of water.

Questions and answers
How long does the candle burn?
Up to about 20 hours. It is best to light the wicks alternately so the wax burns down evenly.
What area does it protect?
The manufacturer gives a protection range of about 1 metre around the candle. So it is best placed in the middle of the table or the spot where you sit.
Can it be used indoors?
Yes. The manufacturer intends the candle for indoor and outdoor use. As with any candle, keep an eye on it while it burns and keep it away from flammable objects.
How soon does it start working?
According to the manufacturer, geraniol reaches its full repellent effect after about 15 minutes of burning, so light the candle a little in advance.
Is it enough in tropical countries?
In regions where mosquitoes transmit diseases such as malaria or dengue, the candle is not enough. Also use repellents designed to protect against these diseases there.
