This is an original seal from the German manufacturer GOK for the gas cylinder connection marked GF. In GOK terms, GF stands for the large cylinder connection (Großflasche). The seal is a flat ring made of white plastic and measures 18 x 11.7 x 2 mm: 18 mm outer diameter, 11.7 mm hole and 2 mm thickness. When to replace the seal
- check the seal every time you change the cylinder: it should be flat, smooth and free of cracks
- replace it if it is deformed, flattened or nicked, or if you can smell gas at the connection
- also replace it if it fell out or got lost while unscrewing the regulator
- do not reuse the seal if it shows a deep imprint of the valve edge after unscrewing
How to fit the seal
- close the cylinder valve and unscrew the regulator
- remove the old seal and make sure the seat is clean and dry
- place the new seal flat in the connection seat, without twisting or bending it
- screw the regulator onto the cylinder and tighten the nut with moderate force
- open the cylinder valve and check the connection with leak detection spray or soapy water
- if bubbles appear, close the valve, reseat the seal and check again
Choosing the right seal
Cylinder connections differ by country and by cylinder type, and each type of connection needs a different seal. GOK makes separate seals for the large cylinder connection, the small cylinder connection and the combi connection, in plastic, aluminium or NBR rubber. This seal is designed for the GF connection. Before ordering, check the connection designation on the regulator or in its manual, or simply measure the old seal: it should have an 18 mm outer diameter, an 11.7 mm hole and a thickness of 2 mm. If the dimensions do not match, this seal will not give a tight connection.
Safety
The seal is part of a gas system, so after every fitting check the connection for leaks with the cylinder valve open. Never look for leaks with a flame. Do not grease the seal or the thread and do not wrap the thread with tape, because this connection is sealed by the seal itself. If the connection still leaks after replacing the seal, the cause may be a damaged cylinder valve or regulator. In that case do not use the cylinder and have the system checked by a professional.
