Thetford Seal Lubricant 200 ml - silicone spray for the seals and blade valve of cassette and portable toilets
- Thetford silicone spray for caring for the seals of cassette and portable toilets. It protects rubber seals from drying out and cracking and keeps the cassette blade running smoothly. The 200 ml can lasts for many applications.
A cassette blade that gets harder to move, squeaks or no longer seals properly is usually a sign that its rubber seal has dried out. Thetford Seal Lubricant is a silicone spray developed for caring for the seals of cassette and portable toilets. A thin coat lubricates the rubber, protects it from drying out and cracking and also repels dirt and dust. This way the blade opens and closes smoothly and the seals stay flexible for longer. The product is safe on all types of plastic and rubber. It comes in a handy 200 ml aerosol can.

Key features
- silicone spray for Thetford toilet seals
- lubricates and protects rubber seals from drying out and cracking
- keeps the cassette blade valve running smoothly
- repels dirt and dust
- safe on all types of plastic and rubber
- recommended use 2-3 times a year

Why seals need care
In a cassette toilet the blade separates the bowl from the waste-holding tank. Its tightness depends on a rubber seal that works every time you open and close it. Over time the rubber dries out, hardens and may crack, especially after a long standstill or frequent cleaning with harsh products. The blade then becomes stiff, squeaks, and odours may escape from the cassette. Lubricating the seal regularly with Seal Lubricant helps keep it in good condition and extends its life. The blade seal is still a wear part, though, and will need replacing after years of use.
Where to use it
- blade seal in the cassette of Thetford cassette toilets, for example the C220, C200, C250, C260, C400 and C500 series
- seals and blade valve of Thetford Porta Potti portable toilets
- other rubber seals in a motorhome or caravan, e.g. on doors and service hatches
- locks, hinges and awning rails
- chain and moving parts of a bicycle
How to use it
- Empty the cassette and rinse it with clean water.
- Open the blade, clean any deposits off the seal and the blade, then dry them thoroughly.
- Shake the can.
- Spray a thin, even coat onto the seal and the blade.
- Open and close the blade a few times so the product spreads over the whole seal.
- Wipe off any excess with a soft cloth.
How often
Thetford recommends using the spray 2-3 times a year. Use it more often if the blade gets stiff or the seal feels dry. It is also worth protecting the seals before a long standstill, for example before laying up the vehicle for the winter. During storage, leave the blade slightly open so the seal does not stick to the blade.
What to avoid
- Do not use Vaseline or vegetable oil on the seals, as they can lead to leaks.
- Do not clean the cassette with vinegar, solvents or aggressive products that damage rubber.
- Do not spray onto hot surfaces or near an open flame.
Safety
- The product carries the hazard statements H222 and H229: extremely flammable aerosol, pressurised container that may burst if heated.
- Protect the can from sunlight and do not expose it to temperatures above 50 C.
- Do not pierce or burn the can, even after use.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
- Read the label and product information before use.

Frequently asked questions
Which toilets is this spray for?
For Thetford cassette toilets, e.g. the C220, C200, C250, C260, C400 and C500 series, and for Porta Potti portable toilets. It also works on other rubber seals.
How often should I lubricate the blade seal?
Thetford recommends 2-3 times a year, and more often if the blade is stiff or the seal is dry.
Can I use Vaseline or oil instead?
No. Vaseline and vegetable oil can make the seal leak. Use a product made for seals.
The blade still leaks after lubricating. What now?
The blade seal wears over time. If lubricating does not help, the seal or the cassette needs replacing.
