K&K M9700 marten repeller - 360° ultrasound and high voltage, 6 brushes, battery powered 4 x AA, waterproof, for cars, motorhomes and EVs
- The K&K M9700 marten repeller combines 360° ultrasound with six high-voltage brushes. It runs on 4 AA batteries independently of the vehicle wiring, for up to 12 months per set. A bonnet switch is included.
The K&K M9700 is a marten repeller for the engine bay that works in two ways at once: a dome speaker sends pulsating ultrasound in all directions, and six multi-contact high-voltage brushes give the marten a harmless but clear electric pulse if it still gets under the bonnet. The unit runs on 4 AA batteries, so it does not draw on the vehicle battery. That makes it a good choice for cars that stand for long periods, motorhomes, classic cars, electric cars and plug-in hybrids.

Key features
- 360° ultrasound from a dome speaker, about 20-25 kHz, about 110 dB
- 6 movable multi-contact +/- high-voltage brushes, pulse voltage above 250 V
- powered by 4 AA 1.5 V batteries for up to 12 months
- low-battery LED gives about 3-4 weeks of warning
- automatic shut-off while driving thanks to a vibration sensor
- bonnet safety switch included
- waterproof electronics and sealed speaker
The control unit connects to the wiring harness with a compact plug, so you can replace it if needed without removing the cables and brushes.
How ultrasound and high voltage work together
Ultrasound puts the marten off as it enters the engine bay. Some animals, however, do not react to it: older martens hear differently, and males fighting over territory can be very persistent. That is what the high-voltage brushes are for. Their stainless steel bristles pass through the insulating fur and touch the skin, so the pulse works not only through the paws and snout but through the whole body. The marten gets a short, harmless pulse and runs away. After the animal causes a short circuit, the high-voltage function switches off briefly so that the marten can retreat.
High-voltage brushes
- 6 multi-contact brushes with alternating plus and minus strands
- they do not need vehicle earth, so they also work with plastic engine covers
- you slide them along the high-voltage cable of about 4 m and place them at entry points and places at risk of bites
- the set can be extended with 4 more brushes
- automatic reduction of current draw if the brushes are short-circuited or dirty
Power and batteries
The M9700 runs on 4 AA 1.5 V batteries at an operating voltage of 6 V and an average current draw of about 0.2 mA. One set of batteries lasts up to 12 months. When the low-battery LED starts flashing, you still have about 3-4 weeks to replace them. Use ordinary alkaline batteries. 1.2 V rechargeables do not deliver the required voltage, and 1.5 V rechargeables discharge suddenly, so the LED cannot warn you in time. Batteries are not included.
Design and safety
- waterproof potted electronics and a sealed speaker, so the unit can be mounted low down, even in the splash zone
- housing made of acid-resistant, self-extinguishing plastic
- E1 approval from the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt
- suitable for vehicles with CAN bus, including electric cars and plug-in hybrids
Installation
- the manufacturer recommends installation by a workshop, and a lift makes it easier to reach low entry points
- before installation clean the engine bay and the parking spot, ideally with the marten scent mark remover, to remove scent marks left by other animals
- mount the control unit where it cannot overheat, not next to the exhaust manifold, with easy access to the batteries
- place the speaker so that it can radiate freely
- fit the brushes at least 10 mm away from other conductive parts and at an angle so that water can drain off
- route the cable away from hot and rotating engine parts
- put the yellow warning sticker from the set in the engine bay
Start-up and check
- set the switch to OFF and insert 4 AA batteries
- switch to ON and do not touch the brushes or the control unit
- after a few minutes the LEDs flash to confirm that the unit is working
- a fast-flashing vibration LED means the unit has switched off automatically because of vibration
- after the plug is disconnected the brushes carry residual voltage for about 3 minutes

Questions and answers
Will the M9700 drain my car battery?
No. The unit has its own power from 4 AA batteries and is not connected to the vehicle wiring, so you can use it in a car that stands for weeks.
Will the high-voltage pulse hurt the marten?
No. The pulse is short and harmless and is only meant to scare the animal. After a short circuit the high voltage switches off briefly so that the marten can escape.
Can I touch the brushes?
Avoid it. The voltage is not dangerous for healthy people, but the touch is unpleasant, and people with heart conditions or a pacemaker should not touch the brushes. Open the bonnet before working in the engine bay, as the switch then cuts the voltage.
Can I use rechargeable batteries?
No. 1.2 V rechargeables do not deliver the required voltage, and with 1.5 V rechargeables the low-battery warning does not work.
Does the repeller guarantee that the marten will not come back?
The combination of ultrasound and high voltage is very effective, but the manufacturer does not guarantee that every animal will be driven away. Cleaning the engine bay thoroughly before installation helps.
