K&K high-voltage brushes - extension kit 4 pcs for M9300, M9700 and M4700B marten repellers, multi-contact +/-, fits the existing cable

This K&K kit extends the protection of your marten repeller by 4 more high-voltage brushes. It is useful in large and complex engine bays, where the brushes from the basic set are not enough to cover all entry points, paths and spots at risk of bites. The brushes fit the K&K M9300, M9700 and M4700B units and other units from the maker with two-pole contact brushes. You mount them on the high-voltage cable that is already in the vehicle.

Each brush has two Phillips screws. When you tighten them, the brush holds on the cable and the screws pierce the insulation to make contact with the plus and minus cores.

How the brushes work

On each brush the plus and minus strands run alternately. When a marten walks over a brush, the bristles get through the insulating fur and touch the skin, and the animal closes the circuit between plus and minus. It gets a short, harmless pulse and leaves the engine bay. Because the circuit closes on the brush itself, vehicle ground is not needed, so the brushes also work on plastic covers and parts.

When to add brushes

• a large engine bay with many entry points from below and the sides
• the marten uses routes other than the ones you already protect
• you want to protect more wires, hoses or the insulation mat
• the vehicle is parked where martens are common

Installation

• the maker recommends installation in a workshop, and a lift makes low entry points easier to reach
• switch the repeller off and disconnect the plug before working, then wait about 3 minutes for residual voltage to discharge
• slide the brushes onto the high-voltage cable and place them at entry points, paths and spots at risk of bites
• keep at least 10 mm from other conductive parts and mount the brushes at an angle so water can drain
• fix the brushes with cable ties without overtightening them
• tighten the Phillips screws to tap into the cable and make contact
• the cable end must not stick out beyond the last brush, as this risks a short circuit
• route the cable away from hot and rotating engine parts

Safety

The voltage on the brushes is not dangerous for healthy people, but the touch is unpleasant. People with heart conditions or a pacemaker should not touch the brushes. Keep the brushes clean, because dirt increases the current draw and weakens the effect.

Which units the kit fits

The maker intends the kit for the M4700B, M9700 and M9300 marten repellers and for its other units with two-pole contact brushes. The kit does not fit the M9900, which has brushes with activation sensors. For the M9900 there is a separate kit with 2 sensor brushes.
