Thetford C220 waste-holding tank 18 l - complete cassette with wheels and pull handle for C223-S, C223-CS and C224-CW toilets

The cassette is the part of the toilet that works hardest: it travels with you to the disposal point, gets dropped when taken out and over time it cracks or stops being tight. This original Thetford tank is made for C220 series cassette toilets, fitted in many motorhomes and caravans. It holds 18 l and has wheels and a pull handle, so you pull the full cassette behind you like a suitcase instead of carrying it. You get a complete tank with sliding cover, wheels and handle, ready to slide in through the service door in place of the old one. It is also handy as a second tank to swap, when on a longer stay you do not want to look for a disposal point straight away.

How to check it is the right tank

You will find the toilet model on the data badge, which according to the manual is on the base of the toilet. The tank only fits the C220 series. Thetford C200, C250, C260, C400 and C500 toilets use other tanks and this one will not fit them. Also check the venting. This tank is the standard version with an automatic pressure release vent and a vent button. If the vehicle has the outside vent kit, Thetford offers a separate tank version, which is linked below. Before first use

• Remove all packaging from the new tank.
• Stand the tank upright, turn the spout upwards and unscrew the cap.
• Add waste-holding tank additive in the dose stated on the pack.
• Add about 3 l of water so the bottom of the tank is covered.
• Screw the cap back on and slide the tank into place through the service door.
• Only add additives through the pour-out spout, never through the blade or the bowl, as this could damage the lip seal of the tank.

How to empty the tank

• When the level indication turns from green to red, the tank is full.
• Take the tank out through the service door and extend the handle fully.
• Pull the tank on its wheels to an authorised disposal point.
• Stand it upright, turn the spout upwards and remove the cap.
• Point the spout downwards and empty the tank while holding the vent button with your thumb.
• Add about 5 l of water, replace the cap, gently shake the tank and empty it again.
• Remove the float by turning it clockwise and rinse it with tap water.
• Fold in the handle until it clicks and slide the tank back in.

While driving

Do not travel with a cassette that is more than three quarters full, as the contents could leak through the venting system and damage the inside of the vehicle. Do not let the tank get too full and empty it before the indicator has shown red for long. If the tank does not go back in easily, do not use force, check that the blade handle of the toilet is fully closed.

Cleaning and care

• Remove and rinse the float of the level indication now and then, as a stuck float is a common reason for an indicator that does not work.
• Do not clean the tank with household cleaners, as they can permanently damage the seals. Bleach can also discolour the plastic.
• Thetford recommends using a cassette tank cleaner 2 to 3 times a year to remove limescale from the inside of the tank.
• Care for the seals with a spray made for mobile toilets. Do not use Vaseline or vegetable oil, as they can lead to leaks.
• Toilet paper that dissolves quickly reduces the risk of blockages and makes emptying easier.
